What we do

The Office of University Relations has four areas of focus that offer a variety of services and programs for the university community, news media, alumni, parents, community and government leaders, business community and the general public. These units, University Communications, University Marketing, Industry Engagement, and  Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships, work collaboratively and creatively on projects designed to increase awareness of the university among a variety of constituents. The Office of University Relations also fosters partnerships with three key affiliate organizations, the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and UW Health, as well as our many UW–Madison schools and colleges.

University Communications

University Communications tells the story of the university to the campus community and beyond. The staff develops strategic, written, digital and multimedia communication to capture how UW–Madison is fulfilling its core missions. It collects, edits and distributes information about campus to external and internal audiences via news releases, print publications, photos, video, Web posts, email, social media and other channels.

Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships

The university’s Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships group advocates for UW–Madison locally, at the state Capitol, and in Washington, D.C.; helps foster strong ties between the university and tribal nations and communities; and connects business with a wealth of resources at UW–Madison. These efforts also build bridges with parents, prospective students, K–12 groups and the broader community. This variety of relationships is key to UW–Madison, making the university a valued resource for industry, ensuring that its mission is understood by government leaders, and providing students and families a meaningful understanding of what campus life is all about.
